Cambodia’s apparel product exports are strong
According to Cambodian media reports, the International Labor Organization (ILO) quarterly report shows that Cambodia’s clothing and footwear products maintained steady growth in 2016, a year-on-year increase of 7.2%, with total exports reaching US$7.3 billion. However, export factories registered with relevant departments have It dropped by 10.4%, and the number of workers decreased by 2.9%.
Clothing and footwear products remain Cambodia’s most important export products, accounting for 78% of the country’s total exports. The EU is the largest market, followed by the United States. Clothing and footwear products sold to the EU and the United States account for 65% of total exports, and the market share of sales to Japan and Canada is also increasing. The average monthly income (including overtime pay) of Cambodian garment and shoe factory workers has increased to US$195 (compared to US$145 and US$175 in 2014 and 2015 respectively).
