Jiashi: Low temperature, rain and snow weather delays new cotton sowing plan
As the spring sowing in 2022 is approaching, in order to understand the cotton sowing situation in Jiashi County, Xinjiang, the reporter conducted a survey on the local spring sowing situation.
Cotton farmers interviewed in Jiashi County said that 120 acres of cotton will be planted in 2021, with a yield of 460 kg/acre. All cotton is hand-picked. Due to the high purchase price of seed cotton, cotton planting returns are better. Calculated based on the purchase price of seed cotton of 10.4 yuan/kg, the cotton farmer’s income from cotton planting in 2021 will be 574,080 yuan. Excluding the cost of chemical fertilizer, water, electricity, labor and other costs of 2,000 yuan/mu, the cotton farmer’s net income last year will be around 334,080 yuan, which is significantly higher than in 2020.
This year, the cotton farmer has planted 80 acres of cotton, 40 acres less than last year. As of early March, the procurement of agricultural inputs and spring irrigation have been completed. Affected by recent low temperatures, rain and snow, the sowing work originally scheduled for March 20 has been delayed, and the local sowing time is expected to be delayed to early April.
