Awati: “Dry sowing and wet harvesting” promote water conservation in agriculture and increase income of cotton farmers

The weather is getting warmer and it’s cotton planting season again. On April 1, in a high-standard cotton field in Qiongkul Aiken Village, Sanhe Town, Awati County, a NTU powerful Beidou navigation driverless tractor was conducting precision sowing, and the scene was very spectacular.

Last year, the village used the new water-saving seeding technology of “dry sowing and wet seeding” to trial plant 4,000 acres of cotton, saving 240 cubic meters of water per mu. This year, Awati County will continue to promote “dry sowing and wet seeding” in the village on 8,000 acres, and strives to promote it on more than 100,000 acres throughout the county.

Wang Tongren, director of the Agricultural Technology Extension Center of the Awati County Agricultural and Rural Affairs Bureau, introduced that the biggest advantage of the new water-saving sowing technology of cotton is that it can be sown after the land is leveled, and the water can be dripped through the drip irrigation belt to attract moisture and promote Early emergence of seedlings not only saves spring irrigation water, but also achieves the growth goal of uniform, strong and even cotton seedlings. In addition, the new water-saving sowing technology of “dry sowing and wet planting” can also reduce the secondary pollution of soil salinity and alkali, greatly improve the cotton seedling emergence rate, and achieve the purpose of increasing production.

From the cotton “dry sowing and wet out” on-site meeting held in the Aksu region, we learned that this year the region plans to use the “dry sowing and wet out” new water-saving seeding technology to sow 350,000 acres of cotton in various cotton-growing counties. Promote this technology among large growers, farmers’ professional cooperatives and cotton enterprises, and draw on the experience gained to promote it on a large scale to benefit more cotton farmers.
