Jiangsu: New cotton sowing has been delayed due to weather conditions
Affected by the “late spring cold” weather, cotton nutrient pot seedling raising work has been delayed in Yancheng, Nantong, Suqian and other places in Jiangsu. Some local cotton farmers prepared cotton nutrient bowl seedbeds in front of and behind their houses, set up greenhouses, and prepared to sow and raise seedlings after the temperature stabilized.
It is understood that although the cotton planting area in the Yangtze River Basin is expected to increase slightly this year, farmers still mainly plant rice, corn, soybeans, rape, etc. First, farmers are worried that changes in cotton prices will affect planting income, and the introduction of incentive and subsidy policies for the production of soybeans, rapeseed and other crops has shaken farmers’ intentions to plant cotton; second, the epidemic has hindered production and circulation, affecting enthusiasm for cotton planting.
