Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps cotton sowing has started in full swing, and the mechanized operation scene is spectacular
With spring approaching, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps’ large-scale cotton sowing work is in full swing. All mechanized operations on site are spectacular.
The Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps is an important commercial cotton production base in China. At present, cotton farming and harvesting have basically achieved full mechanization. This year, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps’ cotton planting area is expected to reach more than 13 million acres.
At the sowing site in Tumushuk City, the Third Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, a high-horsepower tractor was slowly moving forward. With the help of the Beidou satellite navigation system, it automatically drove straight and pulled the following seeder for precise sowing. Laying mulch, laying drip irrigation tape, precision sowing and other steps can be completed in one go, requiring only a small amount of manpower.
Different from previous years, this year in southern Xinjiang, cotton growers in Tiemenguan City and Tumushuke City, the 3rd Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps adopted a method called “dry sowing and wet sowing”. The new planting technology developed by the company can save 90% of spring irrigation water.
This technology is more water-savingenvironmentally friendly. The soil does not need spring irrigation and can be sown directly, and then relies on drip irrigation under the film for water supply. The application of this technology, thanks to the improvement of saline-alkali land and the update of seeding machinery, not only saves a lot of water resources, but also increases the cotton seedling emergence rate from about 80% to more than 90%.
This year, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps began to promote the “dry sowing and wet planting” water-saving and income-increasing technology on a large scale, covering a total area of nearly 1 million acres.
Some places also adopt the “one place, two” model to interplant cumin in cotton fields to promote increased production and income. This year, Tiemenguan City, the Second Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, has promoted this intercropping method on a large scale for the first time. Nearly 40,000 acres of intercropping cotton fields are expected to increase revenue by 20 million yuan.
