Cotton cultivation in XPCC has a “new look”
Entering April, cotton sowing is in full swing from south to north in various reclamation areas of the Corps.
On April 17, a seeder was sowing cotton in the cotton field of the 16th Company of the 29th Regiment of the Second Division. With the help of the Beidou satellite navigation system, processes such as laying mulch, drip irrigation tape, and precision sowing were completed in one go. “We don’t have to worry about sowing. The seeder operates automatically according to the harvesting mode.” Liu Wei, an employee of the 16th Company of the 29th Regiment, said, “As the quality of cotton improves, our income will be higher. Technology not only changes our lives, It will change the way we farm.” This year, Tiemenguan City of the Second Division plans to plant 724,000 acres of cotton. Each cotton planting group field widely uses advanced agricultural machinery to improve the quality of cotton sowing , to promote cotton production to improve quality and efficiency.
Data shows that in 2021, the XPCC’s cotton planting area reached 13.05 million acres, and the machine-harvested area was 12.3 million acres. It produces more than one-third of the country’s cotton with one-quarter of the country’s planting area, thanks to the strong support of science and technology.
The Corps has been actively improving the agricultural machinery industry-university-research promotion system, promoting the application of agricultural science and technology, promoting the integrated development of agricultural mechanization and informatization, and improving the level of agricultural intelligentization and informatization. Continuously improve and provide full-process mechanized services for land preparation, sowing, plant protection and harvesting. At present, the cotton mechanical harvest rate of the XPCC reaches 94.2%, maintaining a high level in terms of agricultural mechanization, scale, and water-saving irrigation.
In the 90th Regiment of the 5th Division, the roar of the seeder echoed in the cotton field. “This cotton field can be sown in only four hours. With more new technologies, we will have a better harvest in autumn.” Yin Fengjiao, an employee of the 8th Company of the 90th Regiment, said with a smile.
Fast, efficient, precise and trouble-free are the general comments of employees on this year’s spring plowing and sowing. Using advanced technologies such as the Beidou satellite navigation system, planting, irrigation, and fertilization have a “new look.” The mechanization of the Corps’ planting industry has been greatly improved, making it more secure for employees to increase their income.
