Experts from the Sericulture Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences held a symposium on sericulture development in Liangshan

Recently, researcher Zhang Youhong, secretary of the Party Committee of the Sericulture Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, associate researcher Chen Yian, director of the Science and Technology Information Center of the Provincial Sericulture Institute, and Liu Junfeng, position expert of the Sichuan Sericulture Innovation Team and researcher of the Provincial Sericulture Institute, visited the state sericulture institute. The Industry Development Center held a symposium. Wang Qiming, director of the State Sericulture Development Center, and Xiang Ronghui, deputy director, Yu Tingliang, director of the Liangshan Prefecture Silkworm Breeding Farm, and Yang Ronghua, director of the Xichang Silkworm Breeding Farm, attended the discussion.

At the symposium, Deputy Director Xiang Ronghui introduced the key tasks and advancement of the sericulture industry in the state in 2022. Director Wang Qiming put forward cooperation needs and suggestions on Liangshan Prefecture’s protection of silkworm variety resources, pilot projects of artificial feed sericulture, coordinated development of grain and mulberry, and introduction of silkworm varieties. The expert group put forward opinions and suggestions based on the development of sericulture industry in Liangshan Prefecture. Researcher Zhang Youhong believes: First, it is necessary to stabilize the existing mulberry orchard area and increase the amount of silkworms raised per unit area. The second is to implement modern sericulture production technology measures and cultivate and develop large owners and professional co-cultivators. The third is to explore Liangshan Prefecture’s characteristic sericulture germplasm resources, strengthen the protection and screening of local characteristic varieties, and build a mulberry seed resource bank with Sichuan characteristics. The fourth is to carry out the demonstration and promotion of artificial feed sericulture, focusing on solving the three bottleneck problems of variety, technology and feed. The fifth is to implement the overall grain and mulberry development strategy, test and select intercropping grain crop varieties in mulberry orchards with Liangshan characteristics, and form a production model in which grain production and sericulture industry coexist. Sixth, strengthen cooperation with silkworm breeding farms to promote the breeding and screening of local silkworm varieties.
