On April 7, in Shalatala Village, Gedalian Township, Artush City, a Beidou navigation driverless tractor was conducting sowing operations in the cotton field of cotton farmer Wang Xiaoshuan’s home.

Wang Xiaoshuan’s cotton field has been using driverless tractors for spring sowing for five years.

Five years ago, Wang Xiaoshuan came into contact with a seeder equipped with the Beidou satellite positioning and navigation system for the first time at a cotton sowing observation meeting held in Urumqi. After seeing the efficiency of the high-tech system, he immediately purchased the Beidou satellite navigation system and a 2-film 12-row mechanical precision cotton seeder.

“The machine directly buries the drip irrigation tape under the mulch to store moisture and discharge alkali, and can also save water and increase income. With the Beidou navigation system installed on the tractor, three people can complete the sowing operation of more than 100 acres of cotton fields in one day. Later we Drone spraying will also be used,” Wang Xiaoshuan said.

Mechanized planting has straight sowing rows and high operating efficiency, which is beneficial to cotton picking machines in the later stage. At the same time, land preparation, plant protection, and harvesting are basically mechanized operations, and farmers do not invest much labor. Even during the current busy period of spring plowing and farming, Wang Xiaoshuan only needs to recruit two people to help install the drip irrigation tape and mulch film on the tractor at the edge of the field.

With the modernization of agricultural machinery operations, intelligentization, and the level of informatization improving year by year, Wang Xiaoshuan continues to expand the large-scale cotton planting area, and the cotton output per mu has only increased. Costs continue to decrease and profits increase significantly.

In order to speed up the progress of cotton sowing and guide villagers to scientifically carry out spring plowing and production, Gedaliang Township organized professional and technical personnel to go deep into the fields to provide full technical guidance and achieve standard, precise and efficient sowing.

Aizimaiti Yasheng, deputy secretary of the township party committee, said: “We send technicians on-site to guide cotton sowing every day, and provide technical guidance on cotton watering, fertilization, pesticide application, etc., to consolidate the success of this year’s cotton harvest. This year, all 145,000 acres of cotton fields in the Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture are planted using mechanization. Sowing began in early April and is expected to be fully completed by the end of the month.
