Machine Mercedes-Benz technology helps! Xinjiang’s 37 million acres of cotton are in full swing
Xinhua News Agency, Urumqi, April 19 (Reporters Li Zhihao, Aman) At present, Xinjiang, my country’s main cotton producing area, is entering the peak period of cotton spring sowing. Monitoring data from the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Machinery Operation Monitoring and Big Data Application of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs show that agricultural machinery operations are spread across the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains, and the peak operation peak has moved from the southern Xinjiang cotton area to the northern Xinjiang cotton area. The reporter learned from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region that about 37 million acres of cotton are expected to be sown in the region this year.
In a thousand-acre cotton field in Wudaohezi Village, Daquan Township, Shawan City, farmers are using a new cultivation model to sow cotton. The width of the mulch film has been widened from 2.05 meters commonly used in the past to 4.4 meters, and the thickness has increased to 0.013 mm. The number of seed rows covered by a piece of mulch increased from 6 to 12 rows.
Han Bo, head of Shawan City Nongke Jinyue Agricultural Machinery Farmers Professional Cooperative, said that last year’s tests proved that the new cultivation model has significant benefits in increasing ground temperature, weeding, and conserving moisture, and can increase yields by 30-50 kilograms per mu. , thickening the mulch film increases the mulch film recovery rate to more than 90%, which plays an important role in reducing “white pollution” in farmland. At present, this grassroots exploration has been recognized by the local government, and the city is promoting this model.
In southern Xinjiang, where large-scale land and agricultural mechanization started relatively late, various regions are accelerating the modernization of cotton fields, taking the northern Xinjiang cotton area as a sample. In Tuanjie Village, Baghawati Township, Yarkand County, agricultural machinery driver Remutila Tohetynyazi said that thanks to the application of Beidou satellite navigation technology, his workload has been greatly reduced compared with previous years. “It used to take 6 days to sow 500 acres of land. Now with a satellite navigation system to assist driving, sowing, film laying, and drip irrigation tape laying can be completed in 3 days.”
Due to its vast territory and large climate differences, spring sowing of cotton in Xinjiang has gradually advanced from south to north since late March. It has now entered its peak period and is expected to end at the end of the month. According to monitoring data from the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Machinery Operation Monitoring and Big Data Application of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, north of the Tianshan Mountains, agricultural machinery is concentrated in cotton-producing areas such as Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Huyanghe City, Shawan City, and Shihezi City. In southern Xinjiang, they are concentrated on the west and north sides of the Tarim Basin.
At present, Xinjiang’s cotton has been mechanized in all arable land and sowing processes, and the mechanized harvest rate has exceeded 80%. As a world-class cotton area, Xinjiang is the largest cotton-producing area in my country. There are 61 counties and cities in the region and 110 corps farms growing cotton. Nearly half of the farmers are engaged in cotton production. The income from cotton accounts for 30% of the net income of Xinjiang farmers. (over)
